Easter egg coloring party: Each year I let my children invite friends over to decorate batches of sugar cookies for Christmas and they have an awesome time, so I thought “why not do it for Easter?” Just purchase inexpensive kits at the drug or grocery store in several different styles of decorating & set up different craft stations for each one. I normally buy 2-3 kits of each style so more than one child can work on the same activity at the same time and we don’t run out if one particular style proves to be a hit with the kids.
Jelly Bean mystery trail to Easter basket: Purchase 2-3 bags of brightly colored jelly beans in assorted colors & sizes. Start a little trail from your children’s bedroom doors to a cleverly hidden basket somewhere in the house. They will love the tasty treasure hunt.
Fun Foods: Whether you want to serve this at the egg decorating party, Easter day or tuck into the kids lunches in the days prior, these foods are sure to be a hit:
- Edible Easter basket lunch: Put finely shredded lettuce (thing Easter basket “grass”) and baby carrots on the bottom of small green plastic baskets (I save the ones from strawberries). Chicken nuggets served with ranch or BBQ sauce serve as the “eggs” & the carrots add color. For fun sprinkle some jelly beans or add Easter candy for additional color.
Finger sandwiches: Use Easter cookie cutters shaped liked bunnies or eggs. Peanut butter & jelly sandwiches are always a hint as filling, but you can also use some of your hard boiled eggs and make egg salad. Make sandwiches cut with cookie cutters shaped like an egg, baby chick, or bunny. Use a variety of sandwich fillings such as PB&J or egg salad. For a super sweet treat, try peanut butter with Nutella.
